Groop,
I need help in determining how to restore this
unusual box that has come into my possession.
Supposedly, it is an antique "merchants box" from Italy
used during the 1500's for simple storage purposes.
The box interior is lined with parchment
except for the bottom which is exposed wood.
For repair,
I would like to replace the missing stones
and glass, clean some of the grim off and
repair the cracks to the case.
I was hoping for guidance
in what to use to clean the finish,
what adhesive to use on the case
and what finish to use match the original finish.
The scenes include towers similar to those we saw in Italy.
We took an actual photo of a similar scene
from the fortress battlement at San Gimignano.
The box embossed scenes are eerily similar.
I know this is a bit unusual,
but thought I would put it out there anyway
in the event someone could help.
Thanks in advance. . .
