Groop!
The Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts held its annual
Furniture Symposium last weekend. The focus was on carvings
with some outstanding demos. An important lesson for me was
that my skill level would make a quantum leap if I owned MORE
chisels.
Martin O'Brien was my gracious host who let me play chemist in
his shop to concoct a shade of green for a line of holly. Actually
he did a lot of teaching too.
Don Williams showed up, as did Dave Blanchard and his lovely
wife, Julia. And Tom Delvechio. A mini Groop meeting.
In the photos - Martin is the tall professorial looking one. Don's
wearing the hat and lighting the way for me (in so many ways).
Dave is the young, good-looking one. Tom had kids to tend to
and stayed away from us wild types in the evenings. The flashlight
Don is holding is a Twin Task UV and white LED beauty.
Martin and I were unsuccessful in hiding our torch envy.
Winston-Salem and MESDA are terrific places to spend a
weekend. Thanks especially to Martin and his wonderful wife,
Sol.
