Ohio Mark Potter's Porch
Circa 1909

HI Groop -
I have completed my circular porch project.
It took most of my spare time this summer.
The circular aspect of it made every part of the process
10 times more difficult and time consuming than, say,
a hexagon would have been.
I am extremely pleased with the results.
The next project I undertake will not be round.
Perhaps I can learn how to cut a straight line again.....

Cutting kerfs on the back side of 2x8's
to form the lower header. It was meaty;
2 layers of 2x8's sandwiching 1/2" plywood,
and faced with 1/2" poplar.
It took 8 of us to raise the laminated beam I made
for the upper header. I got 18 - 2x12x12's,
and cut 36 - 6' pieces in a 9 foot radius,
5 inches wide, and glued and screwed them
all together to get 6 layers.
That's a hefty beam.
Finishing up the framing for the cone-shaped roof.
All bastard cuts up there!
Installing the last of 6 columns.
If you want to have some fun,
make a curving porch railing sometime.
Completion! Hand me a beer, will ya?
