Does anybody know anything about this style chair?
I assume it is homemade.
I can also assume the craftsman who made it
was deceased when the joint came loose.

~~~~~ UPDATE ~~~~~
Here is how I went about repairing the Boston Rocker:
I removed the offending turning and drilled a 5/8 hole in each end
and ran a dowel about three to four inches up and down each way,
and glued in place. I let that dry overnight.
Then I stained the rocker golden oak so I could see about what color
I would be dealing with. The following day I took some Quickwood
and replaced the front of the turning that the previous repairer
cut flat to make way for the steel brace.
Also there was about a 3/4 inch gap where the dowel connected
because when I took the steel brace off it had disintegrated.
As you can see I used quickwood and just molded it enough to start with.
Several hours later I sanded the quickwood to better match the turning radius.
Then I used golden oak stain directly on the Quickwood
and sealed it in with a spray of lacquer.
Then I sprayed lightly with some aerosol toner using Vandyke brown.
I then put some mock grain in, overdoing it on purpose.
I sprayed again lightly using Vandyke brown
and then hit the opposite piece as well to match things up.
The next day I sprayed the entire chair.
