New Shop
Gary and Mary Herbold have photos of their new shop on the ShowPage:

Groop,
December was a hectic month for us trying to prepare for the holidays, run a
business, and prepare our new facility for occupancy. It has been a grueling
month but we can see a little light flickering at the end of the tunnel.
I have attached before and after photos of our new building. It is really beginning
to take shape. The previous owners ran a cabinet/millworks operation for 14 years
from here and as you can tell from the pictures they didn't clean and they didn't
throw anything out. (Mary will make sure I don't allow this to happen once we
finally move in.) Three weeks and ten-eight cubic foot dumpster loads later we
finally saw the floor. We will probably regret getting rid of the scrap (to include 2
dumpsters of just formica) but we needed a fresh starting point. Mary would vow
to the fact I can create my own mess in a very short order.
For those of you who didn't know, Mary and I ran our Furniture Medic franchise
from our 24' x 24' shop in the backyard for the past 15 months. Things were very
crowded, our operation was not very efficient, and our woodworking capability was
almost nil. The new shop is 3,000 ftsq with office, two handicap accessible baths
(we had to add one to come up to code), HVAC, and spray booth.
We also bought all of their stationary equipment to include tablesaw, two radial
arm saws, 20" bandsaw, drill press, mortising machine, shaper, jointer, and
surface planer. All of the equipment is vintage Rockwell/Delta with the newest
item being made in 1967 and the eldest made in 1944. While these things are
old they are true work horses and are made very well.
We added a spray booth (large metal object in the back corner) which took me
and a friend two and a half days to assemble. The fan unit is so strong it will
suck the lips off a chicken.
Needless to say we are very anxious to move into the new building. Most of
our time has been dedicated to getting our certificate of occupancy from the city
which has caused our customer backlog to grow. The little bit of hair I have left
on my head has been yanked out bit by bit while playing general contractor.
Dealing with some of the trades people can be very trying.
We keep on telling ourselves just a few more days.
So, that's what is going on here in Jacksonville, NC. We all hope the holidays
were enjoyable for you and your families. If you are ever traveling on highway 17
through Jacksonville stop in and see us. We are only 100yds off the road.
