Steve:
I would make a bet that most of the furniture with staple construction methods
came to U.S. on a boat. Thousands of bf of our good Northeast cherry and oak
are shipped out for milling and construction overseas everyday. Not that some
of this construction isn't done here, but who can get labor costs like Indonesia
and China has. It's a shame what a waste of good wood. The price of cherry
and oak has skyrocketed because of this practice. That's one of the reasons
why I've diversified into furniture repair and touch up. It's pricing us little guys
out of the market. Maybe some day I'll make some fine pieces and give them
away just because I love to do it. That'll fix 'em.
Maybe I'll buy a lottery ticket with that in mind. Ho Ho
