Here's a source for beeswax:

I've never heard of using wax for a stain and/or finish. During the holidays
I needed to be at the whse while racks were installed. I decided to try this.
I made a 3 ft candle holder out of 2x2s mitering four legs and counter sunk
a flat round top to set 6" & 8" candles. I mixed mahagony stain with
butcher's wax added a little mineral spirits and applied it to the frame,
with a shop rag (using gloves).
I didn't melt the wax - this was a quickie experiment. When it dried
(next day) I rubbed a satin shine then put gold highlights on the edges.
The next morn at groop someone suggests you can put shellac on wax.
I sprayed two coats and it looks terrific. I couldn't believe the result.
When I have the time I will make an end table,
use the wax-stain and french on shellac.
