Mist several coats (I do three) before any heavy ones.

Tommy -
Sounds like you're using the old "varnish" decals. Call Decals Unlimited
and request a catalog. I've been using them for years with excellent results
100% of the time. It's a "rub off" transfer-type dry adhesive decal. Just rub
it off and you can immediately top coat. Very good quality. You can top
coat it with just about anything, but to be safe, misting on a coat or two is
probably not a bad idea. Call 1-651-429-4465. Fax 1-651-429-5155.
I see two Bluthner decals available: one is a block style print and measures
1" x 4". The other is a Script style print and measures 4" x 9 1/4".

Whose Decals are you using? Some decals are not made to be lacquered
over. I use the decals from Decals Unlimited or Bob Pierce and both can be
lacquered. I always mist on the first few coats before shooting a wet coat a
few hours later. If you are using the same dacals as you have always used,
I guess you need to lighten up on the first few coats, just mist on three or
four spit coats.
Hope this helps,

Couple more questions on piano refinishing:
1.Do you use varnish or nc when u refinish the sound board?
Some of the piano technicians I have talked to think that varnish
has a better sound than NC.
2. Do you have a source for the black lacquer used by Steinway??
Thanks,
Wayne
