Mohawk Aerosol Products

What they are and where to use them.


1.  M101-series "tone finish toners" - a nitrocellulose lacquer is tinted to 
     a stain strength using finely ground pigment dispersions.

1.  Characteristics:
A)  easy to use and to control color
B)  good atomization
C)  fast drying
D)  permanent color
E)  compatible over most finishes
F)  36 stock colors available

2.  Where used:
A)  to replace color over sand throughs, and rub throughs.
B)  to replace and blend color on repair areas.
C)  for blending, harmonizing, uniformng or changing color shades on furniture.



Ii. M100-series "ultra flo lacquer toners- - a special nitrocellulose base is 
tinted to a stain strength using modern light-fast dyes.

1.   Characteristics:
A)  easy to use and to control color
B)  good atomization and excellent flow.
C)  excellent color clarity
D)  conwatible over most finishes.
E)  17 stock colors available.

2.  Where used:
A)  to replace color over sand throughs and rub tbroughs where high 
      transparency is needed.
B)  to replace color over and around repairs.
C)  for blending, harmonizing, uniforming or changing the shade of furniture 
      when full color transparency is required.



Iii.    M102-series "tone finish clears- (nitrocellulose base) - a top of the 
line nitrocellulose base lacquer finish.

1.   Characteristics:
A)  excellent atomization and flow out
B)  fast drying
C)  durable and alcohol resistant
D)  compatible over most other finishes
E)  good clarity
F)  available in gloss, satin, flat and dead flat sheens.

2.  Where used:
A)  to replace finish over repairs.
B)  to replace finish over worn edges.
C)  to do small finishing jobs where.  A spray gun is not practical to use.

                                                  

                            
Iv. M102-series "ultra flo clears" - a unique blend of special nitrocellulose 
And modifying resins makes "ultra flo clears" a favorite for professional 
Touch-up work.

1.   Characteristics:
A)  superior atomization and flow out.
B)  minimal overspray (blends in with existing finish)
C)  excellent clarity
D)  fast drying
E)  good adhesion to most finshes
F)  good durability and alcohol resistance
G)  available in gloss, satin and flat sheens

2.  Where used:
A)  to replace finish over burn-ins, color repairs and general touch-up.
B)  excellent for any type of spot finish repair



V.   M102-series "finishers choice- lacquer - a very high quality nitrocellulose 
      lacquer packaged at 50% higher solids than traditional aerosol lacquers 
	for fast finish build.

I   . Characteristics:
A)  hi solids for faster build and quicker results
B)  a -spray gun in an aerosol can- - sprays at same solids as conventional 
      guns using traditional nitrocellulose lacquers for a quality gun finish
C)  excellent flow out.
D)  excellent blush resistance.
E)  provides a durable, alcohol resistant finsh.
F)  available in gloss, satin and flat sheens and in sanding sealer-

2.  Where used:
A)  for full finishing projects when a spray gun is not practical or convenient.
B)  use for replacing finish over repairs.




Vi. M102-series "nu-coat lacquer- clear - a special blend of urethane and 
     nitrocellulose resins that produce a finish with the toughness of 
      urethane and application and drying characteristics of nitrocellulose.

1.   Characteristics:
A)  extra tough finish
B)  excellent resistance to moisture and solvents
C)  superior mar and abrasion resistance
D)  fast drying
E)  excellent adhesion to most other finishes
F)  self sealing
G)  very good rubbing and buffing properties
H)  available in gloss, satin and flat sheens

2.  Where used:
A)  apply over properly prepared conventional finishes to increase durability 
     and resistance properties.
B)  apply to difficult to adhere to surfaces such as catalyzed and other 
      urethane finishes for touch-up and repair
C)  use as a super tough finish on small projects.
D)  use as a protective coat for high pressure laminate repairs.




Vii.    M102-pre-catalyzed clear lacquer - a great all around clear touch-up 
         finish that features the most desired characteristics.

I   . Characteristics:
A)  excellent atomization
B)  excellent flow out - disappears on the finish with no visible overspray.
C)  excellent adhesion to most finishes
D)  good clarity
E)  compatible over most finishes.
F)  good durability
G)  available in gloss, satin and flat sheens.

2.  Where used:
A)  finish replacement on all touch-up
B)  to touch-up on difficult to adhere to finishes
C)  can be used for touch-up between coats of catalyzed finishes without 
     causing wrinkling.




Viii.   M102-water clear acrylic lacquers - a blend of modified acrylic 
          resins that yield a water white, non yellowing durable finish.

1.  Characteristics:
A)  water white finish
B)  fast drying
C)  excellent atomization
D)  good adhesion to most properly prepared finishes
E)  available in gloss, satin, flat and dead flat sheens

2.  Where used:
A)  for touch-up over whites, off whites and light color stained pieces.
B)  for coating over repairs on high pressure laminates (formica, wilson art, 
Etc.) And on metal furniture and appliances.
C)  apply as a wear-coat over lacquer finishes

 



X.  M102-sanding sealers - mohawk nitrocellulose base sandng sealers
	 provide excellent sealing and pore filling on all types of wood.


1.  Characteristics:
A)  fast build (high solids)
B)  easy sanding
C)  fast drying
D)  seals in stains prior to topcoating
E)  available in standard and heavy bodied varieties

2.  Where used:
A)  use over repairs to seal the repair and to fill minor blemishes.
B)  use to fill and repair light scratches and packing marks.
C)  use to seal pieces that will be finished with an aerosol colored or clear 
      topcoat.
D)  use to seal wear through areas before toning with mohawk aerosol toner 
      stains.



Xl. M103-no blush & super no blush - a special blend of solvents which 
    soften or open conventional nitrocellulose finishes in order to allow
    evaporation of trapped moisture (blush).

Characteristics:
A)  fast acting
B)  easy to use
C)  excellent finish reflowing

2.  Where used:
A)  to remove the hazy blush that can occur in finishes when spraying 
     during high moisture conditions.
B)  to level orange peeled finishes.
C)  to remove alcohol rings.
D)  available in standard no-blush for normal conditions and in super 
      no-blush for severe blushing conditions.



M103-0467 burn in sealer - 
	a blend of selected resins combined to form a seal coat 
	For use over burn-in repairs.

1.  Characteristics:
A)  water clear/non yellowing
B)  good atomization
C)  helps to eliminate the gloss through common over burn-in repairs.
D)  fast drying.

2.  Where used:
A)  over mohawks burn-in stick repairs as an intermediate seal coat.




Xiii    m103-blender flo-out - a low solids nitrocellulose finish containing 
        slow evaporating "retarder'- solvents designed to reflow existing 
         nitrocellulose finishes.

1.    Characteristics:
A)  excellent flow-out.
B)  good atomization
C)  eliminates overspray around repairs
D)  excellent leveling characteristics for orange peeled finishes.

2.  Where used:
A)  over touch-up and repair areas where overspraying may be noticeable.
B)  over nitrocellulose finishes that show the orange peel effect.



Xiv.    Helpful hints for successful aerosol use.

1.  Shake can well before using to assure proper mixture of ingredients.

2.  Always be certain that the container and ingredients of the aerosol are 
      at least 60" f. @efore using.  Colder temperature spraying can lead to 
	poor atomization and an orange peeled finish.

3.  Apply several light coats rather than one or two heavy coats.
4.  Always follow directions on the can for proper cleaning of the valve 
	and Tip after use.

5.  Plugged tips can be soaked in lacquer thinner to clean and make reusable. 


6.    Before spraying over an existing finish, especially catalyzed and 
	Urethanes the surface should be cleaned and lightly scuffed.



Xv. Characteristics of resins used in aerosol lacquers

1.    Nitrocellulose
A)  slightly yellowing or ambering with age.
B)  good alcohol resistance
C)  good mar resistance
D)  fair to good adhesion to other finishes

2.  Acrylics
A)  water white, non yellowing finishes
B)  good alcohol resistance
C)  good mar resistance
D)  fair to good adhesion to other finishes

3.  Urethanes
A)  amber in color, tends to amber more with age.
B)  excellent alcohol, moisture & solvent resistance.
C)  excellent mar resistance
D)  good to excellent adhesion to other finishes.
