Michelle,

I know what you mean, but its not that.  

Its a banquet size dining table.  Oriental import. 

The wood is hard and brittle - I don't know what kind it is.  
Original stain was very red but has since fadded to antique yellow/orange.  
Owner (a builder / contractor) belt sanded one leaf and swears the red tint 
is permanent.  The object will be to strip and refinish to a light warm tan 
brown.  It should be easy provided the finish is one of those melamine top 
coats.
