RE: Hauboldt Stapler

Dick,
I think Mike M will concur with me that Hauboldt staplers are fine, but not
real well supported. Stantech (BeA) is probably the most popular air stapler
among upholsterers around here. Get the model STD-401, set up for 71
series staples. It's configured very much as you describe.
Burch Fabrics carries them for about $180. They have branches all over, but
their home office is in Grand Rapids. 800 253-3741. You can probably find
one cheaper (@ $150) by looking in the yellow pages under "staplers and
nailers". Fasco is another popular brand, but the price runs about the same,
and for my money, StanTech is better.

DickT,
I have a Haubolt that is a real dandy stapler, but I had one heck of a time getting
it repaired. My local distributor had to send to Germany (maybe it was France?)
for the parts, and they sent the wrong ones, etc. It is fixed and wonderful again,
for about $75. This particular model has a VERY narrow crown and I would not
use it as my primary stapler. I am sure Haubolt has a whole line.
There are numerous other units available, and I actually steered Kingsley toward
one, from our local upholstery supply. You must have one near you ?? BeA and
StanTech are good names. The "keys" are small size, light weight, extended
nose, availablity of staples and service. One of those is gonna be about $200.
If you only use a stapler occasionally, you might consider one of the Accuset,
Airy, or Grizzly models, which are larger, but half the price. The vast majority
of upholstery is done with 1/4" long staples, and they do not have to be real
heavy gauge.
If you are really interested in the Haubolt, I would be happy to talk to the staple
distributor and see if they can order new ones. It ain't gonna be cheap.
