Jim,

Most of the information you asked for is on the data sheets for
the topcoats. Ask your rep to get you the ones you need.

Thanks for the input.

I would like to give some input. Last year I asked why my Mohawk Wiping
Stain was pulling, smearing, or blotching my undercoat of Ultra Penetrating
dye stain. My can of wiping stain was unreadable because of the drips over
the label. So after one year's passing, and finally coming across a readable
label on a new can of Wiping Stain I think that I have hit upon the problem
and the solution. So here goes:

Q: My application of Ultra Penetrating Dye Stain is blotching when I try
to apply the Mohawk Wiping Stain over it.

A: The Mohawk Wiping Stain has some methanol in the stain vehicle.
Use a washcoat of sanding sealer, vinyl sealer, or a very thinned down
mix of your top coat before applying the Wiping Stain over the dye stain.
Or thin down the Wiping Stain with the S-15 reducer, and sprray it on
without wiping. If the washcoat of finish makes it so that you do not get
enough coloring of the Wiping Stain application, use a small amount of
Mohawk's Base Concentrates in your sealer or topcoat to make a toner,
and this will tie in the missing color. Do not add too much colorant so
that you will opacify your finish.

Now I have some suggestions: add to your FAQ the differences between
the many types of padding lacquers that Mohawk has in their catalog.

Also, I suggest a Q & A on when to choose the Base Concentrates and
when to choose the Universal Tinting colors, when they are interchangeable
and when they are not.

Mohawk has many different types of marking pens. A Q & A to sort out the
differences between one pen type and another -- including which colors will
shift when topcoated with lacquer -- will be quite helpful.

What would have helped me out long ago is information on how to mix your
own toners and shading lacquers using Base Concentrates, what to let them
down in, what proportions would be useful in making a toner to use in multi-
step finishing, etc. The same recipe-type information would be helpful with
the use of the Ultra Penetrating dyes made into toners and shading lacquers.

Naturally, Q & A on the use of glazes and their role in matching factory
finishes will go a long way in understanding the role and importance of
multi-step finishing schedules.

If I think of more, I will contribute.
