Melinda,

(1) Stand on a box,
(2) Have him work on his knees,
(3) Dedicate a work surface to each of you.

The idea of adjustable bench legs is a great idea. The use of plastic pipe does not
appeal to me. Use black iron pipe instead. The only two black iron pipes that slip
fit real nice are 1" into 1-1/4". The nice thing about black pipe is that you can have
the pipe cut and threaded and there will be no welding to do. Use pipe flanges,
( they have four holes in the flange for mounting). Cut the pipes to fit your height
and adjust for your hubby with a drilled hole at the comfortable height for him.

I personally have boxes that I use in the shop. They measure 14 x 16 x 18.
They were set-up boxes for cabinet installation, (which I do not do any more).
They are made from 3/4" plywood and have a 3" x 6" slot in each side for hand
holes. They are handy for steps on to the table that you are working on, seats,
stools, and to adjust my height to someone taller and supporting real heavy stuff,
and, and, etc. I call mine "shrimp boxes" because of my height.
